This or That? Common Choices in Home Renovations

Updated: Sep 29, 2020

You’ve nailed down your budget for renovations as well as which room(s) you are going to renovate. Now comes time to make the final decisions as to what finishes you would like, what appliances you find the most appealing, and what flooring options you have. How do you decide? You want to make sure you have everything decided before you begin your renovation. This ensures that you stay on budget and it allows the contractors to work without a bunch of back and forth decisions. Ceramic Tiled Floors or Hardwood Floors?

Ceramic tile is very common for bathroom floors and kitchen floors due to its textured feel to prevent slipping. Ceramic tile flooring is easy to clean, looks modern, and won’t put a huge dent in your pocket.

Hardwood floors tend to be the most popular choice among homeowners when it comes to flooring. Hardwood floors that are sealed will combat moisture damage, be easy to clean, and will provide a uniform look with the rest of the house if it also contains hardwood. Hardwood flooring is much more expensive than ceramic tile, but also a favorite among many.

Granite or Quartz countertops?

Granite countertops require more maintenance than quartz does, but can also create a higher resale value. You will need to seal your granite countertops to prevent any stains or other blemishes from occurring. Granite countertops can be quite expensive but they contribute to a modern, high-end feel. Quartz countertops are incredibly durable and low maintenance, making them a great choice when it comes to renovations. It can handle high heat, and scratches can easily be buffed out with sandpaper. The cost of quartz is comparable to that of granite, although the maintenance and upkeep of quartz countertops tend to be much easier and they look nicer for much longer. Wall Mount Unit, Handheld Unit, or a Rain Shower Head?

Wall mount showerhead units are the most basic and common showerheads. They are nothing fancy but are highly functional and affordable. These showerheads won’t be the center of attention, but as long as they are usable and effective, there will be no complaints.

Handheld units allow you to remove the shower head for bathing and for cleaning purposes. These units make it much easier for people to clean their showers and tubs, and if an individual requires assistance while bathing, it can be done with ease. If you are looking to create an accessible home, installing handheld showerhead units are a must. Rain showerheads are full coverage showerheads that are considered a luxury experience. These showerheads are fairly inexpensive but are sure to gain positive feedback. When installing a rain showerhead, it is important to make sure that it is pressurized, otherwise, your showerhead will not stay up and will not be usable.

Stainless Steel or White Appliances?

Stainless Steel appliances are extremely favorable when it comes to home buyers and owners. Stainless steel portrays a modern, sleek look that is sure to make any kitchen look beautiful. The downside of stainless steel is that is can be hard to keep clean, due to the smudges and fingerprints that tend to show up.

White appliances used to be extremely popular until stainless steel took control of the market. They are great for those homeowners who want to design an all-white kitchen. White appliances blend in perfectly and create a space that has tons of light and an open feel. White appliances do not attract fingerprints and smudges, although some of them can look outdated.
